Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Conductivity and Resistivity Meters

Non-destructive testing (NDT) conductivity meters and resistivity meters are devices for measuring the electrical conductivity and/or electrical resistivity of solid media to determine the characteristics of its constituent materials. Typically, NDT conductivity meters and NDT resistivity meters are used with metals or other materials and components. Electrical conductivity measures the efficiency with which atoms in a metal or other material transmit electrons. Electrical resistivity is the electrical resistance of a body of unit length and unit cross-sectional area or unit weight. A low resistivity indicates a material that readily allows the movement of electrical charge.  

Form factor choices for non-destructive testing (NDT) conductivity meters and resistivity meters include bench or rack, computer board, portable, and production or continuous monitoring system. Bench or rack-mounted NDT conductivity meters and NDT resistivity meters are stand-alone units that can be placed on a bench or desktop, or mounted on rack. Computer boards mount directly into a computer. Portable units may be a handheld pulser / receiver. NDT monitoring systems for electrical conductivity and/or resistance are used to continuously detect or measure flaws, thickness or corrosion in production line, plant or field applications.

Important specifications to consider when searching for non-destructive testing (NDT) conductivity meters and resistivity meters include measuring range, accuracy, number of channels or probes, and operating temperature. The measuring range is the range of conductivity values that can be measured by the device. The accuracy of an analytical measurement indicates how close a given result comes to the true value. With NDT conductivity meters, the accuracy is the expected minimum absolute value in conductivity units that the measured value is close to the exact value. The number of channels or probes specifies the number of channels of the unit, or the number of probes that can be connected to the device. The operating temperature refers to the full-required range of ambient operating temperature.  

Other features common to non-destructive testing (NDT) conductivity meters and resistivity meters include programmable or digital controls, real-time imaging capabilities, and printer ports. An NDT meter with programmable or digital control is controlled by a computer program or other digital method. Real-time imaging capabilities can produce images in real-time that are displayed on monitors, or that can be stored in storage devices. A printer port can be connected to produce hard copies of data.
